About

Formerly known as Sidetracks, Squeegee Riot is a screenprinting collective dedicated to empowerment, self-determination, and collective liberation through skill-sharing and art.

Our mission is to make screenprinting accessible to those driving social change — such as projects, organizations, and collectives committed to anti-racism, anti-capitalism, decolonial work, and 2SLGBTQIA+ issues. We also provide an affordable space for artists to explore and develop their practice. We do this through low-cost screenprinting workshops (101 & 201), open studios, and community-based printing services for groups with little to no budget.

For over 15 years, the collective has been run by and for trans, two-spirit, queer, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, creating a space where activism and art intersect.

As a collective of artists and organizers, we began in 2009 as part of the Ste-Émilie Skillshare. Over the years, we’ve adapted to many different constellations and spaces, facing multiple evictions due to gentrification and rising rents. With a new studio space in the Mile End, we embrace a fresh chapter — letting go of our former name inspired by our proximity to the St-Henri train tracks – saying goodbye to Sidetracks and welcome to the Squeegee Riot.

We are a working group of QPIRG Concordia.
